Property portal Boomin has joined a long list of high profile companies withdrawing their TV ads from controversial right-wing ‘shock jock’ TV channel GB News.

Launched on Sunday to great fanfare fronted by big-name TV presenters such as Andrew Neil, Dan Wootton and Kirsty Gallagher, eschewing news and instead running Fox News-style opinion items.

But complaints from consumers have led to a string of advertisers withdrawing their TV ads from the programme including IKEA, Amazon, Deliveroo, the AA, Octopus Energy and Premier Inn.

Since it launched its programmes have featured several Boomin ads and, when The Negotiator approached the portal for comment, its Chief Marketing Officer Phil Lloyd said: “GB News represents a small fraction of our media investment and always-on media strategy.

“We had already paused our advertising spend with them as we assess its ongoing appropriateness.”

TV and radio regulator Ofcom has already received nearly 400 complaints about an item on its launch night by Dan Wootton in which he promoted several anti-Covid conspiracy theories.

The fledgling GB News bills itself as a straight-talking antidote to mainstream news broadcasters and says it will promote ‘unheard’ points of view and offers ‘anti-woke’ commentators like Wootton airtime.

  1. Somewhat bizzare move – is Boomin aware that GB News is regulated by Ofcom just like all other TV news channels? Does Boomin have a problem with Ofcom? Honestly, business needs to stay out of all this woke political craziness and leave it to the regulators.

I have also been watching GB News and see nothing hateful – its actually very diverse and what I’ve seen there is a real range of opinions. I think its a welcome addition to new coverage.

  2. All the complaints are probably from BBC staff, – afraid they’re going o be out of work !
