Udderly silly or a brilliant new way for estate agents to gain instructions?

Estate agents are among the fist companies to list on a new ‘local services’ app that has launched in the SW of England and Wales but expects to go national soon.

Called Uddr, it offers consumers a single app to find ‘trusted’ services in their local area including sales and letting agent.

Its platform costs approximately £11 a month to join and list on.

The app has a dedicated property section and agents have already signed up including One2One Estate Agents in Wales, Number One Real Estate in Newport and the Cardiff Branch of Haus. Several regional solicitors and conveyancers are also no board.

Overall the app, whose developer is based in Pontypool, Wales, has already signed up some 700 small businesses, and is named after a local dairy business owner.

The platform incorporates WhatsApp and is an affordable and easy-to-use business development tool for local service providers who have not yet adopted digital and who are therefore hard to track down as a result online.

Co-founder and director David Smith (pictured) says: “It was watching a David Attenborough documentary that inspired Uddr.

“The programme urged everyone to think about their own role in creating a sustainable planet; recycling, cutting down on waste and utilising services such as the local milkman to cut down on single-use plastics.

“I just couldn’t stop thinking about how our local milkman needed support to embrace the digital world. A year later and we officially launched Uddr.”

  1. The last 18 months have highlighted the need to support our independent local businesses, alongside raising awareness to those smaller businesses and their clients, the dire need to do whatever we can to create a sustainable planet.
This is a great initiative! Many outdoor workers carry their mobile phones around with them, and incorporating WhatsApp makes it a more accessible platform.
