Upmarket estate agents Copperstones Properties and Savills are battling it out to sell multi-million properties at London’s Battersea Power Station.

The iconic landmark in London’s Nine Elms area has been under development for 10 years to turn the old power station into a hub of property, shops and office space.

The commercial operation of The Power Station officially opens next week. Apple will be the biggest office tenant, taking over six floors in the central boiler house and retailers will include Zara, Hugo Boss and Ralph Lauren

EVEREST

The 1930s building, often described as the “Everest of real estate”, once supplied a fifth of the Capital’s electricity, including to Buckingham Palace and Parliament.

It also became famous for being pictured alongside a floating inflatable pig on the cover of Pink Floyd’s 1977 album Animals.

CONTROVERSY

But the development has not been without controversy. As well as initial bloated prices there have been a series of false starts in its redevelopment, including an attempt to recreate it as a theme park.

But since the project has been backed by a group of Malaysian investors, the development has thrived through a clear vision to successfully regenerate the site as a mixed-use neighbourhood. This has included opening Circus West Village in 2017, which is now home to over 2000 residents and over 20 shops, restaurants and bars; residential completions in the Power Station, Gehry Partners’ Prospect Place and Foster & Partners’ Battersea Roof Gardens; and its crown jewel, the restored Power Station, opening to the public next week on 14 October.

Battersea Power Station Development Company boss Simon Murphy says: “It has taken a lot of hard work, determination, and the continued commitment of the Malaysian shareholders over the past 10 years to bring Battersea Power Station back to its former glory.”

With strong knowledge and expertise in off-plan and new build, we market some of the finest homes in the development.”

Shahwali Bashir, director of Copperstones Properties, told The Neg: “We are proud to be the highest selling agency for Battersea Power Station.”

Hristo Dobrev, marketing manager for Copperstones Properties, adds: “With strong knowledge and expertise in off-plan and new build, we market some of the finest homes in the development.”
