British Heart Foundation bike rides: tough, very tough!

Stuart Manchester imageStuart Manchester, Senior Negotiator at The Property Shop in Brighton (and the Editor’s son!) joined 15,000 riders for the London to Brighton Bike Ride, raising money for The British Heart Foundation.

“Setting off for London at 3am, with the bikes in a friend’s truck, the temperature was a balmy 20°c. At 6.30 am the atmosphere was buzzing but we were reminded that ‘it’s not a race’ … we’ll see about that!

“A gentle amble then, through London, Surrey and into Sussex before the feared (but actually easy) Ditchling Beacon. I took part with my good friend Dean who I met on the BHF Off Road London to Brighton Ride last September. Dean’s son, Harrison, aged 8, has been having extensive heart surgery since he was born – and sadly, more is to come in his future, so every penny raised goes towards vital research that helps children like Harrison.

“Not only that but my Grandparents lived to see their four great grandchildren thanks to innovations in heart surgery techniques researched by the BHF so it’s a hugely worthwhile charity very close to our hearts.

“I’m undertaking for three challenges for the BHF this summer. Next is the full South Downs Way, Winchester to Eastbourne. 100 tough miles of off-road fun. 12,500 feet of hills, jaw dropping scenery, serious fun (dangerous) descents. National Trails recommends doing it over three days, my target is 10-12 hours!

The final ride is a very tough, 75 mile London to Brighton Off Road. More hills, much more tricky, but a great day out. All for British Heart Foundation.

I may well do the same next year plus the epic London to Paris Off Road!
