Chestertons has donated 500 rain ponchos to a charity supporting vulnerable orphans in Malawi.

The William Stewart Hope for the Hopeless Foundation was established in 2015 as a result of the friendship between Levison Mlambya, a teacher in Malawi and William Stewart, a tutor in the UK and now supports vulnerable orphans in the Ibuluma villages in Northern Malawi.

Many children have to trek long distances, sometimes across difficult terrain, to get to school. In the rainy season they contend with sitting in soaking wet clothes, in unheated classrooms but Chestertons’ ponchos will now be distributed to help keep the children dry, making the rainy season a lot more bearable.

William Stewart, UK Co-Founder of the Foundation, says, “Through our work we have been able to send many essential items out to Malawi, such as stationery, clothes, footwear and blankets and now ponchos! The ponchos were delivered by air and sea and have been received with tears of joy in so many cases.

“We would like to extend our huge thanks to Chestertons for its gift. Each and every poncho will go to great use and be such a help for the children through the next rainy season.”
