Estate agent goes over to the ‘other side’

As competition for properties reaches fever pitch, Michelle Hendrie leaves a valued position at Jackson-Stops to become a buying agent.

Former estate agent, Michelle Hendrie, has joined West Sussex buying agency, Property Acquisitions, to help meet phenomenal demand from country house buyers seeking village homes in and around Midhurst, Petworth and Chichester.

Michelle left a long-term post at  Jackson-Stops in Midhurst, where she has spent the last fifteen years selling prime country houses in and around the South Downs National Park. Her belief that buying agents are the future has driven her to make the move.  She is following a growth in popularity of buying agents, driven by the pandemic and the scramble for space, light and air in the countryside. And the realisation among buyers that a buying agent could find off-market homes.

Michelle was already working with buyers keen to stamp their ground in West Sussex’ golden villages. For example, she says, one client was a downsizer in a large country estate, looking for less land and an easier lifestyle in a period or contemporary eco home. Meanwhile a professional London couple were seeking a weekend village home with panoramic rural views in the Midhurst, Petworth area that they can eventually retire to.

The secret is now out with house hunters… buying agents are key to finding the good country houses that nobody else knows about.”

She commented, “The secret is now out with house hunters… buying agents are key to finding the good country houses that nobody else knows about, removing the competition for them hugely. Over the last two years, demand has outweighed supply tremendously. This has made it very hard for buyers to find and secure a country house on their own without paying a huge premium for the privilege.

“Having always enjoyed matching buyers to houses as an estate agent, I therefore feel my skillset and knowledge is now best-placed on behalf of buyers.

Michelle is joining Property Acquisitions and Founding Director, Jennie Hancock added, “It is a very exciting time for Michelle to be joining the business, and already she has proved invaluable in helping me cater to demand. I have always admired her passion and professional expertise for many years, and I am confident she will be a huge success at Property Acquisitions.”
