A fully refurbished 1909 Dutch barge, Transporteur, now serving as a very stylish houseboat on The Thames is offered in an online auction with SDL Auctions in partnership with the Hampton office of London and Surrey estate agent Jezzards.

Moored at Platts Eyot, close to Hampton, the barge now offers contemporary modern living in an historic vessel. It has three bedrooms, a modern fitted kitchen and modern bathroom and is offered with a starting price of £220,000.

Jason Lee, national sales manager at SDL Auctions, said, “This is certainly an unusual lot and the vendor has created a marvellous modern living area within an historic barge.”

Dutch barge imageTransporteur was a dry cargo carrying barge the plied the Dutch coast and canals until the 1960s. Originally powered by a 1909 single cylinder Kromhout, it now has a 15 litre 4Lw Gardner engine.

In addition, the hold had 20 lift off roof panels replaced at a cost of £10,000 in 2008 and, in 2017 it had a full high quality refit including internal and external painting in excess of £45,000. It now has its Boat Safety Certificate in place.

The mooring at Platts Eyot is ideally placed within walking distance of Hampton village and a mainline station. It is offered freehold and has a total floor area of 581 sq ft.
