Mayhews Horley – sophisticated, but welcoming!

Mayhews Horley makeover imageWhen an estate agent wants to expand, the process often involves relocating. For Mayhews – a sales and lettings agent on the Surrey/Sussex border – the opportunity to double its footprint in Horley simply fell into its lap.

MPL Interiors got the call from the Mayhews team when the office next door to its current Horley High Street branch came up for tender. Not only was the adjacent space bigger, it also occupied a prestigious corner plot, enabling them to almost triple their window display and increase the company’s brand awareness.

With the exterior plan complete, the interior design brief was to uphold the Mayhews brand identity to create an inspiring workplace for staff and a warm welcome for clients.

It was decided to keep the two premises separate internally, allowing Mayhews to delineate the sales and lettings divisions, but MPL’s primary job was to unit the two facades from the outside for a seamless double frontage. The design team replicated the existing shop sign with some technical tweaks to allow for the second premises’ slightly different architecture and created an internally illuminated sign to go above the new corner-set front door.

This is complemented by cable hung LED display pockets in the arched widows and floor-mounted podium-style LED pockets facing the High Street.

The interior design brief was to uphold the Mayhews brand identity to create an inspiring workplace for staff and clients. The starting point was new walnut effect storage units, colour matched to desks, wall cladding, flooring and lampshades.

Mayhews Horley makeover imageAll the furniture in the corner office is new. The reception desk was built to echo the curves of the new drop-head feature ceiling and the sweeping curve on the floor, where the wood-effect laminate and carpet meet. The desk has a ‘corporate’ modesty panel, with feature lighting set under a clever lip. Likewise, the dealer-style six-person desk has another bespoke, illuminated modesty panel at the public-facing end.

The walls are branded with a tinted wall map, a 3D stud-mounted Mayhews logo, 3D letter art and a custom printed team photo canvas. To complete the project, MPL Interiors created and furnished a smart private meeting room.
