Negotiator awards: We were the champions!

How does it feel to win at the Negotiator Award? We asked some “ecstatic!”, “shocked”, “fantastic”, “honoured” and “absolutely thrilled!" silverware holders.

Property Drum

negotiator-awards The Negotiator Awards, in association with Zoopla Property Group, clearly mean a great deal to the winners. In this second group of winners, we hear why they  decided to enter and just how much it means to them to have won.

There are an estimated 22,000 agency branches in the UK, so to be able to call yourself one of the very best is a great boost to a business.

Buyers, sellers, landlords and tenants are all impressed by industry accolades and being an award winning agency also attracts new staff while raising morale among your established staff members!

It’s not just about winning ‘on the night’ – it’s a lasting win-win-win for your company. Read the winners’ comments and start thinking about your entry for this year’s Negotiator Awards, to be held on Tuesday 5th November 2013 at the same venue: the London Hilton on Park Lane.

INDEPENDENT LETTINGS AGENCY OF THE YEAR

WINNER: Nicholas Humphreys

Had you entered the Negotiator Awards before this year?humphreys-staff-outside-window-board

No, we have never entered before.

What made you decide to enter?
We felt that we have a great business and we need to shout about it, something that we hadn’t really done before. We felt there may be a marketing advantage. Many newer and less successful businesses seemed to have won awards which stimulated us into entering at least.

How long did it take to complete your entry?
A couple of sessions, each taking a couple of hours.

Were you ‘confident’ – or even ‘sure’ that you would win – or was it a complete surprise?
We felt confident of making a good impression but it still came as a surprise to win the award.

What were your feelings on the night when your name was announced as a winner?
We were delighted to say the very least. Everyone present felt very proud of our achievement, a real boost to morale.

We have already won listings against our competitors on the back of this award! James Bailey, Nicholas Humphreys

humphreys-staff-group-awardHow did your staff react to the news?
Everyone was thanked personally and they were all very pleased to have achieved this!

Have you issued a press release about your success?

We issued a press release including photos of the evening in all the local papers that serve our territories.

Have you already incorporated your ‘win’ into your marketing materials?
Yes we have integrated the win into stationery, web page, newspaper advertising, window stickers, car stickers, enamel badges, A-frame posters at offices and external banners on office fronts.

What benefits do you believe the accolade will bring you?
We have already won listings against our competitors off the back of the award.

Would you recommend other agents to enter The Negotiator Awards?
It’s certainly helping us so why not?

Will you enter the 2013 Awards?
Probably!

PROPERTY MANAGER OF THE YEAR

WINNER Beverley Squire, Essex Properties

Had you entered the Negotiator Awards before this year?beverley-squire-team-award

Yes, in 2011 I was really pleased that I had been nominated as a finalist in the Property Manager of the Year category as this had been my first entry to the awards, so I tried again this year.

What made you decide to enter?
The business had suddenly had a step change in the pace of workload and I realised that the company was going from strength to strength, with me firmly in the driving seat. The award is not just about me though: the amount of effort and hard work that my colleagues put in every working hour has made the business into the thriving company it is today and with our imminent expansion, doubling our capacity, this stands to be a pivotal point in our development of the company, making our everyday decisions and actions count towards the continued success of Essex Properties.

How long did it take to complete your entry?

I took my time thinking about how I would write about my achievements and was careful to recognise the important highlights of the year so far, also pulling on experiences over the past several years and I compiled a condensed version of events.

There was a company dinner arranged to celebrate the win, the first time that every member of staff had been out together. Beverley Squire, Essex Propertiesbeverley-squire

Were you ‘confident’ – or even ‘sure’ that you would win – or was it a complete surprise?
I was really hopeful that my efforts both in the entry wording and the whole ethos of my working practices would shine through as being winning potential.

What were your feelings on the night when your name was announced as a winner?
I was somewhat overwhelmed as well as being completely delighted by this accolade. I was absolutely thrilled to be chosen not only as a finalist, but then to be announced as the winner of the 2012 award, as I believe I have had a truly terrific year in terms of developments within the business. To be chosen as the winner was the icing on the cake and I was humbled that I had proved to be a winner amongst such deserving peers.

How did your colleagues react to the news?
The people I had attended the event with were colleagues and friends and they were absolutely overjoyed at my achievement. When I arrived back at the office the next day, the team had already put up posters and pictures in celebration, and as always it was executed with such genuine care – although I was the winner, it was regarded as a team success and this is how I would like it to be seen. There was a company meal organised in celebration of my award which everyone attended – this is the first time that every single member of sta had been out together, needless to say it was a lovely evening.

Have you issued a press release about your success?
Yes, my picture and a short piece were placed in the local circulation.

Have you already incorporated your ‘win’ into your marketing materials?
Our literature has now been changed to incorporate the winner’s logo, including our email sign-off strip. The company has tender packs that go out to prospective clients and again my picture with the award is now part of the current pack. The amount of exposure is a great marketing tool for the business and I am really pleased that we can use this to our advantage. Clients have been intrigued by the mention of the awards and this has opened up several new conversations.

What benefits do you believe the accolade will bring you?
It is an honour and I am proud to be flying the flag for Essex Properties. The experience of winning has certainly been a fantastic end to 2012. It has been very flattering and confirmed that I am doing a great job with great people around me.

Would you recommend other agents to enter The Negotiator Awards?
It is something I would recommend other agents to aspire to achieving, but of course each year the competition gets tougher and the bar becomes higher.

Will you enter the 2013 Awards?
If I do enter the awards for 2013, I expect that the other entries will be of a high calibre and I plan to raise my game in acknowledgement of this.
