New OnTheMarket tool highlights growing importance of virtual tours

The portal now enables house hunters to filter out property listings that don't come with 3D or video tours.

OnTheMarket has launched a new tool that enables house hunters to search for property listings that come with virtual viewings including both virtual 3D and video tours.

This new functionality is also a market first; both Zoopla and Rightmove do not offer filtered searches based on virtual viewings availability.

OTM’s move is in reaction to the huge surge in buyers and tenants keen to whittle down their property choices by initially ‘viewing’ properties online, a phenomenon that has been prompted largely by the lockdown and the ongoing challenges and risks of attending physical viewings.

The portal says video and 3D tours have been available on its platform for some time but that this is the first time house hunters have been able to filter their searches based on availability of virtual viewings.

Helen Whiteley (left), Commercial Director of OnTheMarket, said: “During analysis of OnTheMarket’s data, we found that users who engaged with a video were over 200% more likely to send an enquiry.

“The latest government advice encourages property-seekers to use virtual viewings wherever possible. In the current market, we believe these viewing tools have never been more valuable.”

Virtual tours and videos can be accessed via the navigation bar on each full property details page. Videos can also be added at the end of the photo carousel.
