Hybrid estate agency easyproperty.com says it has been telling its members agents not to send or look at emails out of hours in a bid to reduce stress and enhance mental health.

Its Chief Operating Officer Jason Bull  (main pic) made the comment during a webinar organised by charity The Conveyancing Foundation to mark Stress Awareness Month.

It has been campaigning since the pandemic kicked off to urge agents, solicitors and conveyancers to be more civil to each other despite the challenges it has created.

“Emails sent out of working hours bleed into someone’s time and bleeds into being anxious after hours,” he said.

During the event it was revealed that the foundation’s ‘Be Kind We Care’ campaign had worked with better relationships reported between agents and conveyancers.

This includes fewer reports of ‘aggressive professional behaviour’ according to its chairman Lloyd Davies.

More tolerant

Bull added: “I am pleased to hear that estate agents are becoming more tolerant. Sometimes problems can arise when agents don’t understand where their job ends and where the conveyancer’s job begins.

“I have seen agents interfering with a conveyancer’s job and that just adds extra time, extra complaints and layers of conflict and yet we share the same problems and by talking to each other, we can solve an awful lot of them.”

Bull, who is also an Agents Together mentor, said he thought that estate agency has been a “macho, ego-driven environment but charities have opened the door to discussing stress and mental health and wellbeing. If worries, doubts and concerns are not discussed, they manifest”.
