A website has been launched to encourage young people planning their careers to consider the property industry and help them secure their first jobs.
Created by a group of 12 large firms including Savills, Knight Frank, BNP Paribas – the owner of Strutt & Parker – Carter Jonas, Colliers and Allsop, it is designed to attract a wider range of applicants to the sector.
The Property Needs You website will eventually offer advice and details about all the different roles within the residential and commercial sectors including estate agency, although at launch it is heavily focused on surveying.
Created by Changing the Face of Property, an umbrella organisation for the companies involved that’s been active since 2012, it will be a conduit for young people, parents, teachers, schools and careers advisors to inform, educate and inspire around opportunities that exist within property.
The website is also designed to attract candidates from a more diverse range of gender, educational and ethnic backgrounds and also make it appeal to those with disabilities.
“Homes, warehouses, office spaces and rural environments; every aspect of our world is touched by professionals from the built environment,” says Kelly Canterford, programme manager at Changing The Face of Property.
“The opportunity to influence infrastructure and positively impact communities is extremely exciting. With a career in real estate, young people can change how we exist in the future.”
The website focuses on the different routes into the property industry including apprenticeships whether in urban or rural markets.
It also features a career quiz to help younger people figure out what property careers could be suited to their personality and skills.
