Simon Jack

Business Editor, BBC News

Back by popular demand to host The Negotiator Conference, Simon was our host in 2023 and went down a storm. He returns at a time of great change in the property industry, with legislation reforming house selling, the Private Rented Sector and with artificial intelligence making itself felt in every aspect of our lives – particularly in business.

Banking Roots: Before pivoting to journalism in 2003, he spent a decade working as a commercial and investment banker in London, New York, and Bermuda.

BBC Career: Simon rose through the ranks via BBC Radio 5 Live’s Wake Up to Money and BBC Radio 4’s Today programme. He became a familiar face on television while anchoring the BBC’s coverage of the 2008 global financial crisis.

BBC Business Editor: He was appointed to this flagship role in 2016, succeeding Kamal Ahmed. He regularly appears across the BBC One, Six, and Ten O’Clock News to break down major national economic policy.

Simon’s recent journalism covers the ripples of global conflict on the UK landscape:

The Cost-of-Living Crunch: Analysing the latest OBR economic forecasts and assessing how international pressures, like the US-Iran war, impact domestic energy bills and household disposable income.

Budget Tracking: Dissecting Chancellor John Healey’s recent economic measures, including tax relief adjustments and business rate changes for UK companies.

Interviews with global titans: conducting exclusive deep-dives with figures like BlackRock CEO Larry Fink regarding artificial intelligence, changes to the global labour force and the future of energy markets.

🎙️ Good Bad Billionaire Podcast

Alongside journalist Zing Tsjeng, Simon co-hosts the award-winning podcast Good Bad Billionaire, where they grade the lives, fortunes, and controversies of the super-rich using a playful, unscientific scorecard. Recent episodes have broken down the wealth and empires of figures ranging from Elon Musk and Khaby Lame to Toto Wolff and Mr Beast.
