Find out just how the rental data thousands of landlords and letting agents share with VOA Rent Officers not only feeds into Government benefits that help sustain almost two million PRS tenancies in England, but is also being used by the Office for National Statistics (ONS) to develop new rental statistics which will provide:

  • a monthly publication covering the UK, Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland, the English regions, and local authorities;
  • an index of private rental price growth over time;
  • annual change in price over time;
  • the average private rental price over time; and
  • a breakdown of private rental price by geography and bedroom category (studio, one bedroom, two bedrooms, three bedrooms, and four or more bedrooms).

Private rents are an increasingly important component of the UK housing market. There is an increasing need for policy makers, agents, landlords and tenants to better understand the sector, particularly at a more local level where there can often be significant differences in how the rental market is performing.

The latest update of the ‘Private Rental Prices Development Plan’ was published by ONS in February 2022, with a formal user consultation period due to start next year.
