Andrew Granger & Co – 30 years and going strong

The East Midlands agency is celebrating 30 years of business – how do they account for their success over such a long period?

Local knowledge and adaptability are two key factors in the success of one of Leicestershire’s largest independent estate agencies, according to the company’s Joint Managing Director.

Andrew Granger imageMark Sandall of Andrew Granger & Co attributes the agency’s success over three decades of a volatile property market to a willingness to expand the portfolio of services that it offers to cover all areas of the property sector. These include professional services, planning and valuations, rural, lettings and commercial and residential sales.

“One of the strengths of Andrew Granger & Co has been the maintenance of high levels of service across three decades. We have achieved this by offering strong local knowledge, combined with a commitment to customer care and a range of property services all within one company,” Mark comments. “This means that we can offer clients integrated services underpinned by expert knowledge. If one of our staff doesn’t know the answer to a question, they can call on a colleague who does.”

During its 30-year history, the company has grown from employing just five staff at one office in Market Harborough to employing over 40 staff across three locations in Loughborough, Leicester and Market Harborough.

Due to the combination of city centre and rural market town locations, Andrew Granger & Co has expertise in villages and towns and a range of areas including equestrian and estate management, as well as selling and letting property in more urban areas such as Leicester.

Mark added, “We are also fortunate to have offices in locations that have become increasingly popular over the last three decades as improved transport connections and exorbitant property price rises in some parts of the country have encouraged London and other city based commuters to relocate to Leicestershire. We have also embraced new technology to ensure that we are highly visible online and have a new website coming soon which will showcase the services and expertise that we can offer.”

This commitment to the future has been recognised by two industry awards in 2018 as well as the company topping the Rightmove charts for lettings in the area throughout 2018.

The company was set up by Andrew Granger in 1989 offering land agency and estate house sales. Andrew retired as a director in 2017 but still works as at the company as a part-time consultant.

At that time the housing market had recently crashed after unprecedented house price rises in the 1980s. Although the challenges facing the property sector in 2019 may be different, Andrew believes that there will always be a place for experienced local agents.

“Many people now search for properties online but the services that a knowledgeable, locally based agent is able to offer are still in demand,” he comments. “In fact, the share of the market taken by online agents has been far lower than originally forecast, due I think to the fact that people value the advice, market expertise and personal relationship that a good high street agent offers.”
