Industry giant Barbon appoints insurance ‘super chief’ to drive growth

Barbon Insurance Group, the UK’s largest tenant referencing and specialist landlord and lettings insurance intermediary, has appointed Wayne Tonge as its new Managing Director.

Tonge has a proven track record of success and over 25 years of experience in the industry and brings a wealth of expertise and innovation to the company, which includes Homelet, Rentshield Direct and LetAlliance.

Tonge has a strong background in customer service and the property insurance sector, having worked for several high-profile financial service companies such as AXA, Pearl Assurance, Arthur J Gallagher and Ardonagh Group, latterly founding Property Initiatives Underwriting Agency (PIUA).

Tonge says: “We’re at the start of a huge journey, with a clear vision and a robust 5-year plan to double our current EBITDA, we’ve set the stage for significant growth and success.

Barbon Insurance Group, which includes well-known brands HomeLet and Let Alliance, became part of PIB Group in 2021.

The company’s Rent Guarantee scheme has surpassed £1.5 billion in annualised rents protected and its fraud-detection technology in referencing checks now picks up more than 150 cases of fraud daily.
