The UK Apartment Association (UKAA) is on the hunt for a new CEO after its Dave Butler, who has steered the trade body for the past three-and-a-half years, has revealed he is to retire in April.

Under his leadership the UKAA, which is the main grouping for build-to-rent (BTR) developers and lettings agents, has grown fast as the number of companies involved in building and managing this kind of housing has exploded.

Butler worked for eight years for Grainger, the UK’s largest home-grown BTR operator, until 2017 before taking up the reins at the UKAA.

“It has been an honour to champion and support UKAA’s members in their diligent work creating the rental communities of today and tomorrow over the past three years,” says Butler.

“The organisation’s growth has been remarkable, and it is a pleasure to be able to retire with such certainty regarding the bright future that UKAA has ahead of it.”

Lesley Roberts, its President, adds: “The whole organisation extends its thanks to Dave for his contribution. He is leaving the UKAA and our sector in a position of strength, and we wish him every happiness in his retirement.”

Candidate search

As well as looking for a new CEO, the UKAA has also created a new role of Operations Director to help expand the trade body further and is also now looking for candidates for this too.

“This will give us greater capacity to support the continued growth of the wider Build to Rent sector and deliver even more amazing homes,” says Roberts.

The UKAA was formed in 2016 in response to a growing awareness of the need for a single unifying body to the BTR sector including from larger letting agents, many of whom have been busy setting up specialist property management and lettings arm for the sector.

The organisation is a Global Alliance Partner of the NAA (National Apartment Association) in the US and has 250 members in the UK.
