Police are continuing to appeal for witnesses after it was revealed that a ‘four figure’ sum of cash was stolen last week from an Essex estate agency in broad daylight.
Three men walked into the branch of Griffin Estate Agents on Orsett Road in the riverside town of Grays on Friday lunchtime and began engaging staff in conversation, claiming they were interested in some of the properties featured in the branch window.
While staff were distracted, one of them men stole the cash from a desk drawer and also attempted to steal a mobile phone.
A member of staff tried to stop the trio leaving the premises but was knocked over, while another managed to wrestle the mobile phone off one of the robbers.
The estate agency has said on its Facebook page that ‘no weapons were used, no keys were stolen and no one was seriously hurt… apart from our pride”.
Several people on social media had initially suggested the men involved had been armed.
Essex police are now appealing for more witnesses who may have seen what happened or who saw the three men acting suspiciously in the area before the incident.
The police statement say the three men were all in their 30s, had dark hair and one wore a brown leather jacket. Anyone with information can contact Essex Police online.
