A leading London landlord and estate agency owner has been to Buckingham Palace to be given an MBE awarded to him within the New Year’s Honours list.
Gopal Gupta (pictured above, second left) has spent 37 years building up both a large law firm and a residential property empire including two estate agencies in North London. His MBE is in recognition of both his services to business and his philanthropic work in the UK and India.
For decades now local children from schools in Harlesden and Harrow have gained valuable work experience at his businesses, while he has also given out over 10,000 free wills to those in need and distributed £250,000 to aid projects in Delhi.
“My father is a humble, down-to-earth guy who didn’t like being in the spotlight but he was over the moon when we all joined him at Buckingham Palace. It was an absolutely unreal experience,” says his son Ankush Gupta who joined his father alongside his two other brothers at the ceremony.
The 61-year old handed over the day-to-day running of his property empire to his sons several years ago and this was recently rebranded as the Gupta Group which develops both residential and commercial property.
The company now has national ambitions and has developments in Wolverhampton, and is also planning a significant redevelopment of its property holdings in Harlesden.
Gopal was joined by over a thousand other recipients of awards including Monty Python Michael Palin, actress Twiggy, football manager Darren Southgate, Pink Floyd drummer Nick Mason, cyclist Geraint Thomas, actress Sophie Okonedo and author Margaret Atwood.
