Connells, the UK’s largest estate agency group, has grown even larger following its latest acquisition, this time of five-branch SW London estate agency Aspire.

The industry giant says the purchase of the 22-year old firm gives it further coverage via Aspire’s branches in Battersea, Balham, Fulham South, Fulham Central, and Clapham but also, more importantly, adds 750 properties to its existing letting book of some 125,500 homes across the UK.

Aspire will retain its name and brand identity but join the John D Wood & Co family and use that firm’s dedicated property management centre, technical expertise, and broad applicant database.

Founding duo

Aspire was established in 2003 by Andrew Townend and Matthew Dabell. This is Townend’s second exit after earlier setting up Townends Estate Agents before working for KFH, while Dabell had been a director at both Townend and KFH.

The pair have said in the past that they set up Aspire after becoming frustrated working at large organisations and, after a brief experiment with franchising, moved to a directly-managed model. Dabell is leaving the business while Townsend is to remain as a director.

The sale was brokered by Adam J Walker & Associates Ltd.
