Reeds Rains closures: trading one day, gone the next

Just days after announcing that it would close 43 offices across the UK as part of a wider network reduction, LSL branches have already begun closing and staff laid off.

The brutal nature of LSL’s dramatic branch network restructure has been revealed by details of two closures in Wales.

The pair of Reeds Rains branches have been closed in the market town of Abergele and the seaside resort of Prestatyn (pictured, above) in Denbighshire.

It has emerged from local reports that staff at both locations were told on Tuesday last week about the closures but the branches were standing empty and de-branded by Thursday.

“The announcement follows a comprehensive review of our branch networks and operations in response to the changing landscape and customer demands,” a Reed Rains spokesperson said.

The territories of both Reeds Rains branches are to be transferred to the company’s surviving nearest Reeds Rains branch in Rhyl, which is four miles West along the coast from Prestatyn and five miles East of Abergele.

Job losses

It has not been made clear yet what will happen to staff at the two closed branches, although the company says it will working to ‘minimise’ job losses.

“We continue to believe that traditional estate agents will represent the substantial majority of the residential sales and lettings markets for the foreseeable future and that our estate agency branches will continue to remain core to providing the service our customers expect,” the company says.

“The changes we are announcing will better position Your Move and Reeds Rains as two leading estate agency brands in the UK. We will continue to support these branches and our people to maintain their brand presence and well-established local market positions in the future.”
