Scottish agent selling birthplace of Donald Trump’s mother
An estate agent on the Isle of Lewis is selling the former home and birthplace of Mary Anne MacLeod, the mother of Donald Trump, in the tiny windblown fishing village of Tong three miles outside Stornoway. It is a three-bedroom, two-storey house with grey walls and dormer windows for sale at £169,000 in the centre of the village. It is close to the school where Mary was educated and learned to speak English. Many people then spoke Gaelic as their first language, and still do today. Her former home, which has been reduced from £178,000, is one of around 50 similar properties in the village, all hunkered down to withstand the island’s famously blowy and wet weather. Decorated sparingly inside, the cottage is a far cry from the gleaming portfolio of towers that her son Donald built in the US, or the gold-encrusted rococo Manhattan apartment he owns in New York.
