Branch CRASH: ’24 hours earlier and it could have been devastating’

Estate agent Lee Nicholls tells The Neg staff were lucky no-one was harmed after a runaway car crashed through the office window.

An independent estate agent in Wales has described how his branch team responded when a car smashed through the window of his high street office.

Lee Nicholls told The Neg that the car careered through the office window before demolishing desks, computers and a glass partition.

Luckily, there was no-one in the office of Property Plus in Tonyrefail, Rhondda Cynon Taf, South Wales, as it was closed on Saturday morning, or someone could have been harmed.

Nicholls, the company founder and MD, says: “It could have been devastating if it was 24 hours earlier. The day before there was four people in the room.

“It was quite nasty.  But my team were on site very quickly and they were fantastic,” says Nicholls, who was driving through France at the time on the way back from a holiday in Spain.

Open as usual

No-one was in the car at the time of the crash, police confirmed. It had rolled from a side road across the street outside the office and mounted the kerb before destroying the office front window and display.

The Fire Service removed the Ford saloon car within hours of the crash, and the window was boarded up.

But Nicholls didn’t leave it at that, he asked a local graffiti artist, Tea2Sugars, to decorate the board.

We won’t be opening a drive-by estate agency just yet.”

“I wanted to get the truth out there [that we were still open],” he says. Tea2Sugars painted a picture of a car with the message ‘Open as usual’ (see picture left).

The branch did, in fact open as usual on Monday morning. “It was imperative that we were open,” says Nicholls.

“We won’t be opening a drive-by estate agency just yet,” he jokes.
