Purplebricks is urging wannabe homesellers to beat the Spring rush and list property now or in the New Year citing the cost-of-living crisis as changing seller priorities.

The online agency says the crisis has forced eight out of 10 (79%) sellers to re-evaluate their priorities while one in four (24%) say they are now more likely to move next year as a result.

OPPORTUNITIES

Unsurprisingly over half (55%) of sellers say they prefer to list their property in the Spring and Purplebricks says this in itself could present end of year opportunities for those wishing to beat the rush.

Tom Grennacre

Tom Greenacre, Managing Director of Purplebricks, (pictured) says: “It’s understandable that people are nervous about the cost of selling their home and moving house given the cost-of-living crisis – but they don’t have to be.

“Buying a new home in a cheaper area or downsizing where children may have left home, for example, might leave you better off. And listing now, or very early in the New Year, could mean that you beat the crowd.”

Changing priorities for homeowners included spending less on a new property than planned (18%) and selecting a new property which is more of a project than they’d normally choose (6%).

COST

Just under half of homeowners (49%) said that they were planning to stay put because of the cost of moving  – but with them believing it could cost an average of £6,592 to sell their home with a conventional high-street estate agent.

Greenacre adds: “We charge simple fixed fees from just £1,199, which means that it’s easier to budget the cost from the start.”

Earlier this month Purplebricks’ half-year results revealed a 16% drop in revenue, a 38% plummet in gross profits and a rise in operating loss to £11.7 million.
