Senior figure in private rented sector dies following cycling accident

Mike Morgan, a leading figure at both TDS and mydeposits, has been remembered with affection after he passed away.

Mike Morgan, a much-respected figure within the private rented sector, has died following a cycling accident, his employer HFIS has announced.

The company, which operates Property Redress, Client Money Protect, mydeposits and which is a major provider of insurance for landlords, has announced his death, saying it is “deeply saddened to announce the passing of Mike Morgan”.

“Mike was a highly respected and much-loved figure in the private rented sector, known for his deep industry knowledge, legal expertise and exceptional character.

“His death is a tremendous loss to the entire HFIS business and the wider property industry, as well as to the many colleagues and friends who had the privilege of working and spending time with him.”

Morgan began his career in the army, later joining the legal and property sector becoming a qualified solicitor, accredited adjudicator (ACIArb), and gaining a professional award in Ombudsman and Complaints Handling Practice.

He was a founding figure at the Tenancy Deposit Scheme (TDS), where he played a central role in developing the organisation into a nationally recognised tenancy deposit protection provider. In 2020 he moved to mydeposits, where he brought his “experience, passion, and unique humour” to the business.

He went on to lead the Property Redress and Client Money Protect membership teams, playing an instrumental role in developing their agent advice service, HF Assist, and supporting the resolution and compliance teams.
