A fundraiser has been launched for a ‘larger-than-life’ and much respected former Welsh estate agent who was killed in a jet-ski accident off the coast of Pwllheli last weekend.

Porthmadog-based Barry Davies worked for many years at Dafydd Hardy Estate Agents before joining the police force in 2013 and was off duty at the time of the accident, which took place last Saturday.

A major rescue operation was launched following the accident involving an air ambulance, the coastguard helicopter, RNLI, ambulance crews and the police.

Davies was retrieved from the water but despite extensive medical intervention, he sadly died at the scene, local media report.

The 49-year-old leaves behind a partner, Linda, and his two daughters, Elan and Alaw.

Friendly, funny, caring

A message posted by Dafydd Hardy on its social media says: “Barry Davies was always friendly, funny and caring to all he met, a lovely guy. “He later went on to join the local police force, a goal he’d had for many years. It’s with great sadness we learnt of his passing on Saturday in a tragic jet-ski incident. He’ll be missed by all the team, nos da Barry Bach.”

A statement released by the North Wales Police Federation says: “It is with great sadness we mourn the loss of our friend and colleague, PC 2963 Barry Davies who tragically lost his life on Saturday 15th August 2020.

“Barry was a widely respected and much loved colleague and his absence leaves a huge void to North Wales Police and the communities he served.”
