“You’ve heard of the ice cream wars, but have you heard of board wars?”

Astonished estate agency founder in Scotland says many of her directional boards have been sprayed with paint or been stolen.

An estate agency in Scotland has accused rivals of a dirty tricks campaign after many of the company’s for sale boards were either vandalised or stolen in recent weeks.

Peachtree Properties in Renfrew says the damage to its boards has taken place primarily in the Erskine area, an area north-west of Renfrew alongside the Clyde river.

Damage to the boards includes a white paint being sprayed to obscure the company’s name or telephone number.

Peachtree founder Stacy MacCrimmon, 37, (pictured, above) says she believes the damage has been perpetrated by local rivals jealous of her company’s success.

The 37-year-old says she has been very busy since Scotland’s housing market restarted following the Covid lockdown, and that “this hasn’t gone unnoticed by our competitors”.

Intense competition

MacCrimmon says that, although she’s worked in property for over 15 years including many years working for Countrywide brand Slater, Hogg and Howison, she’s never come across this kind of intense competition.

“I’m not one to lift my head from the workload and give ourselves a pat on the back, but we are smashing it out the park at the moment and it hasn’t gone unnoticed by our competitors who have taken to vandalising our directional for sale board or removing them in the Erskine area,” she says.

MacCrimmon claims the vandals are preying on the for sale boards at the heads of streets or main roads, but have been reluctant to go into gardens in case they are caught.

“Over the years there have been the usual damaged boards, particularly in the summer holidays when the kids are off school,” she told local media.

“But more recently we have experienced our boards going missing.”

Peachtree was set up four years ago and in July the company moved into Hairst Street in Renfrew town centre.
