‘Estate agent staff like me are quitting London for a better lifestyle’
Former Marsh & Parsons sales manager Richard Towler says Covid has persuaded him to quit the Big Smoke for Teeside.
The well-documented population exodus from London during Covid has included many estate agent staff who have used the shift to hybrid-style home working to escape London. And one high-profile example is former Marsh & Parsons sales manager Richard Towler who, after 14 years working in the Capital as an estate agent, has returned to his home town.
He has joined Teeside two-branch estate agency Clarke Munro as its Sales Director, telling The Negotiator that many more from his former London estate agent peer group have quit London too.
Clarke Munro recently rebrand from Thirlwells following the purchase of the business from its founders by Nicola Munro and Wendy Clarke (pictured).
It has now embraced a more digital future and turned its two branches into hybrid-style hubs as the business expands without establishing more offices.
Towler says: “North Yorkshire had always been somewhere that my wife, Debs, and I had planned to move back to once our daughter, Ruby arrived.
Lockdown decision
“The national lockdown last Summer provided us with the opportunity to accelerate our move forward a number of years.
“From a work perspective, London provides the best opportunities to develop a career and gain exceptional experience, and my wife and I have enjoyed our time there immensely.
“But with our young daughter, the move up to Yorkshire has given our family considerably more space at home, a better work-life balance and a lot more fresh-air without compromising on our professional careers.
“Debs has continued to work for the same law firm but an office at home, and I am thoroughly enjoying my new role with Clarke Munro.”
