The MD of a Doncaster estate agency has gone public after being diagnosed with a rare bone cancer that affects just 40 people a year in the UK.

Sanjay Gandhi, who runs Moss Property with his wife Anita, began complaining of headaches two months ago but, after being shown unusual lumps at the back of his head following an exploratory MRI scan, says it was ‘like being hit by Mike Tyson’ when the diagnoses was revealed.

During an interview with Christopher Watkin published today on his YouTube channel (watch below), Gandhi says he wants to help others going through similar challenges and also create awareness about rare conditions like chordoma tumours.

Beeney inspiration

He also found inspiration from a documentary about cancer survivor Sarah Beeney after her decision to share her journey with the world.

Beeney was diagnosed last year with breast cancer but has now been given the all-clear and is making a documentary about her experiences.

Gandhi says he and his family have been grappling with a range of emotions including terror, devastation, and uncertainty while he’s also had to let go of the reins at his two property businesses and support his team to take over while he focusses on his health.

The 55-year-old says his experiences have highlighted the importance of having adequate health insurance and critical illness policies and the need to regularly review these policies to ensure they align with changing circumstances.

His final thoughts during the interview are centred on the invaluable support from family and true friends during difficult times.

He encourages everyone to cherish their loved ones and appreciate the significance of even the smallest gestures of care and concern.

Gandhi has been helped by the Bone Cancer Trust and he’s calling on fellow agents to support its work via a donation through the charity’s Just Giving page.
