The number of 18-25 year-olds starting their own estate agencies is growing by the day with young entrepreneurs now behind almost one in 10 of total agencies launched last year, research has shown.

Companies House data analysed by Instant Offices found a total of 3,408 estate agencies were registered in 2022, with 297 or 9% started by 18-25 year olds – compared with just 2% the previous year.

Among those who launched their agencies while aged under 25 include Robert Brinkley, who set-up Brinkley’s Estate Agents in South West London, back in 2006 aged 20 and Fergus Harding who founded Harding Estate Agents in Southend-On-Sea in 2015, when he was just 21.

The agencies started last year by 18-25 year-olds outside of London were predominantly launched in Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow and Leeds.

The findings are in line with wider research which suggests the pandemic was a catalyst.

Among this group, the proportion aged 18-24 soared from just 1.7% pre-pandemic to 8.6% in the two years after the Covid-19 outbreak.

John Williams, Chief Marketing Officer at Instant Offices, says: “This spike of innovation following the pandemic shows how it drove a large number of young people to reconsider their careers and take the bold step of pursuing their own path.

“Now, young business owners are making their presence felt across estate agency with an injection of new energy.”
