Free tools for DIY content marketing

Some will give suggestions on who to follow, what content is most popular for certain topics, and even reporting on your own profiles as well as competitors. Take a look at the free tools available to help with your social media marketing:

Buffer.com

Buffer makes it easy for businesses and marketing teams to schedule and then analyse the performance of posts, and manage all social media accounts in one place. It also allows you to multi-schedule across platforms and has an integrated image creator tool.

TweetDeck

If you have a great love for Twitter, then TweetDeck is the platform for you. Use custom timelines, create and manage Twitter lists and searches – and see scheduled posts for Twitter all in one place. What’s more, this is a completely free tool for all Twitter users!

Content Creation

Do you find that when you come to write a blog post, you have no idea what topic to choose? HubSpot’s Blog Topic Generator can help you to do the work for you. It takes five different keywords and generates some different ideas that you could write about.

Do you like creating visual content? Then you’ll love Canva. It allows you to create various design visuals in a short amount of time. Full of templates, you can create mini-graphics, small advertisements, flyers, posters and info-graphics.

Photos / Images / Gifs

Whilst you might think that you can use any old image you find off of the internet, unfortunately you can’t, and you can get into a lot of trouble for it if you use the wrong one. You need to be using as many royalty free images as possible in your marketing, or at least own the rights to some of the images you use. Luckily, there are a lot of photographers out there who are happy for you to use their work for free, which is great if you haven’t got the budget to commission your own photographer.

You might think that you can use images you find on the internet – you can’t, and you can get into big trouble!

Here are some of my favourites:

Giphy

This is a great platform to get some different moving images in your social media posts. Whilst Gifs can be added to your posts directly from Twitter and Facebook, when in-putting them into different scheduling tools, you can’t always find them. You can also get a free Chrome extension so you can find Gifs quickly.

Snipping Tool

Sometimes you just need a screenshot. Already available on most Microsoft Windows versions, search for the Snipping Tool from your home tool bar.

Video Creation

Video is one of the top forms of media online and whilst everyone would love to have a camera crew to take video to share, it’s not always possible. As with royalty free images, you can get royalty free video that you can cut together and share, also free.

Video editing tools

If you need free video editing software, Blender is one of the best. It is a free open source platform that is available on Windows, Mac, and Linux. It allows you to cut and splice videos together easily and add images, audio and effects. Great if you are creating just a short 30 second clip.

Screen Recording Tools

There are so many videos out there on YouTube of people creating tutorials and video showing step by step guides. If you are looking to make a recording of your screen for a tutorial, try some of these free platforms:

Managing various profiles isn’t always a five-minute wonder. It can take ages to put together a great piece of content to share, or troll through a load of different feeds to find the right piece of news to share. Crafting the right tweet, with the right hashtags and tagging all the appropriate accounts can also take time to put just one effective tweet together, let alone the engagement with other social media profiles. Hopefully some of these tools will help you get your content strategy off the ground.
