A team from JOHNS&CO in London gave up a day at the office to volunteer in the gardens at Richard House Children’s Hospice in the Royal Docks.

Richard House was London’s first children’s hospice and today supports 300 families across East London. It is the agency’s charity this year, after winning the vote from a company wide survey to choose a charity to support.

Every employee can take two volunteering days a year to spend at Richard House, the equivalent of donating a full-time member of staff to the hospice for a year.

On 19th June, a team of JOHNS&CO employees cashed in their volunteer day and spent the day weeding and tidying the 2.7 acre gardens in time for Richard House’s summer fair in July.

Carla Bradman, Marketing Director at JOHNS&CO, said, “The gardens are fantastic and so much effort has been put into them to make them as engaging and bright as possible for the children and their families. Recognising that many of the children won’t make it to the seaside, Richard House’s dedicated volunteer gardener created a seaside haven with a beach hut and canoe. It was very humbling to help and to know that the gardens look their best for the summer.”
