One-time legend footballer Hugh Murray (on left, main picture) has spoken about his new career as an estate agent, and how he was bitter about the way his main playing days ended.

Murray now works as a senior valuer for family-run firm Lanarkshire Law Estate Agents, in Bellshill, just outside Glasgow, which won a business award earlier this month.

He enjoyed a long playing career as a footballer, breaking the record for appearances with St Mirren.

Murray says: “I’ve always had an interest in property, but when I was a player that only really involved watching Homes Under the Hammer!

“But I absolutely love working in this industry. My brother-in-law Kevin and sister-in-law Lynsey run the company, and we have a great team working in the office,” he told the Scottish Sun newspaper.

“We know we’re really good at what we do, but it’s great to get that recognition by being named Best Estate Agent in North Lanarkshire.”

Saddened

But Murray is still saddened by the way his time with St Mirren ended more than 10 years ago.

‘Shuggie’ as he was known, who is now 44, spent 16 years with the ‘Buddies’.

He says: “I just wish things had ended better for me. It’s gone though, all in the past, and I’m not bitter towards St Mirren now that some years have passed.

“But it’s fair to say I didn’t leave the club in the best of terms, and that’s quite sad when I think about it.

Murray left St Mirren in May 2012: “On my last day I just picked up my boots and left. For years I didn’t set foot back in the stadium.”

After Murray left in 2012 he played for four more years at Partick Thistle, Dumbarton and Clyde.
