Leading Welsh lettings agency sells to rival for six-figure sum

One of Swansea's leading independent letting agencies has been sold in a deal that will ‘secure the future of the business’.

Team at McCartan lettings

Swansea independent lettings agency McCartan has been acquired by rival Number One Property Management for a reported six-figure sum.

McCartan Lettings & Property Management was set up by Hannah McCartan (pictured, second from right) in 2006. Since then it has established a reputation for providing quality rental accommodation and has won numerous local and national awards.

After almost two decades, though, McCartan has decided to sell up.

I’m delighted to pass the baton on to the new owner.”

She said: “After an incredible 18 years, I felt it was the right time to sell and I’m delighted to pass the baton on to the new owners, Newport-based Number One Property Management, who are the ideal team to drive the next stage of McCartan Lettings’ growth.”

In safe hands

Number One Property Management‘s head of lettings Emma Darlow (pictured on left) will be taking over the reins at the Swansea office, but with branch manager James White remaining in his post to assist her, McCartan says she knows the transition is ‘in safe hands.’

Reflecting on the years spent growing the company into one of the area’s most recognisable property brands, McCartan says: “I’m super proud of what we’ve achieved. I set out to change the perception of what a Letting Agent could be, and I truly believe I’ve done that with the reputation and brand McCartan Lettings has become.”

With the sale successfully concluded, McCartan has already moved on to her next venture, founding The Landlord Community, a compliance and training hub to support landlords across Wales with practical, no-nonsense advice on the latest lettings legislation.
