Foxtons finds the cash to go electric on the road
London estate agency giant Foxtons has announced it is to spend significant sums making its fleet of 850 minis electric just weeks after announcing it is closing half a dozen branches in order to cut costs. Foxtons says the project will take ten years to complete and has claimed that there still aren’t enough electric vehicle charging points in the capital. “Without increased charging points, greater access to ultra-fast charging and more off-road parking, businesses like ours, which often require frequent and rapid vehicle charging, will find the transition extremely challenging,” says CEO Nic Budden. “We support the Mayor of London’s vision for an expansion of London’s EV-charging network but ask that this roll-out is accelerated so more businesses can make the switch sooner.” Budden also revealed that the company is to become a member of EV100, a not-for-profit green campaigning group dedicated to accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles Upfront costs Foxtons is also calling for greater transparency around future EV costs, including company car tax rates and expiry dates of existing grants, and for more support with the upfront costs incurred while upgrading an entire fleet to electric. “This is a great example of how companies can accelerate…

Winding up of company behind old eMoov to take another year
The appointed administrator of the failed company behind the original Emoov business has submitted documents to Companies House revealing that it will take a further 12 months to complete the task. London and Southampton-based legal firm James Cowper Kreston has gained the agreement of Emoov Ltd’s creditors to extend the period of administration to the 2nd December 2020. Emoov Limited went into administration on 20th December last year after the business failed to find a backer to keep it trading following mounting losses. Earlier this year James Cowper Kreston revealed that it has £465,777 to distribute to the company’s creditors including £232,500 paid for the Emoov name, website and technology platform by proptech firm Mashroom Ltd. It has subsequently relaunched the business with a new logo, website and fees structure. The extra time needed by Emoov Ltd’s administrators reflects the complicate nature of its descent into receivership; as well as shareholders, trade creditors and institutional investors, it also raised money from hundreds of small investors via crowdfunding platform Crowdcube. This includes £2.62 million raised in 2015 from 780 people and a further £1.9 million raised in July 2018 from 1,119 investors. Emoov also signed an equity-for-media deal with both Sky…

Agent removes gates from branch entrance after negative publicity
An estate agent in Kent has removed gates it erected outside the company’s branch to prevent a homeless man and his dog sleeping in its doorway and apologised for any offence caused. Whitstable firm Harvey Richards & West erected the spiked gates after the homeless man began using the space to sleep in overnight, but a deluge of local and national newspaper coverage on Friday, as well as negative local social media commentary is thought to have led to the company’s change of heart. The agency has issued a statement saying that it regretted any offence caused by putting up the gate late last week and that it was a ‘last resort’ action and that with the benefit of hindsight it has now removed the gate. “As a small independent business which operates outside of normal working hours, sometimes up until 7pm or 8 pm, staff have been having trouble accessing the office late in the evening,” it says. “We have had a few conversations with the young man explaining this but unfortunately the office access remained an issue.” The company says clients phoned the agency to report mess outside the branch at weekends and also anti-social behaviour. “This has…
