Knight Frank launches Ulva Island to the Market

Ulva Island imageUlva Island, one of the UK’s most significant and impressive private islands, is on the market for the first time in 70 years, inviting offers in excess of £4,250,000, through Knight Frank.

Ulva Island is the second largest island of the Inner Hebrides of Scotland, approximately 7.5 miles in length and 2.5 miles in width (4,583 acres). The nearby Isle of Mull is very well connected to the mainland with regular ferry services to Oban.

The island offers Ulva House, (Grade B listed), a church, restaurant and tea room and eight other residential properties including traditional bothies, a former Manse, a Sporting Lodge, farm buildings to support the agricultural and livestock operation and significant sporting opportunities.

Aside from its stunning scenery and impressive sailing, Ulva is also renowned for its wildlife, with 123 different bird species, Minke whales, porpoises and dolphins.

Ulva Island’s name derives from the Norse word ‘Ullfur’, which translates as ‘Wolf Island’, with early settlement estimated to date back as far as 5,600 BC. Ulva has fascinating links to well-known figures including Dr Johnson, Dr Livingston, Sir Walter Scott, Beatrix Potter and the Clan MacQuarrie. Major General Lachlan MacQuarrie, the fifth and last Governor of New South Wales, known as ‘Father of Australia’, was born on Ulva in 1810.

Ran Morgan, Partner and Head of Scottish Residential at Knight Frank, said, “Ulva Island is without doubt the most beautiful and remarkable property I have dealt with in my career. The scenery is breathtaking but the island is more than just and landscape or seascape; it has a range of property and land types, fascinating geology, a huge amount to explore on land and sea and excellent sporting opportunities. There is something for everyone.”
