Leading Yorkshire estate agency Linley & Sampson has bought another rival, its third major investment since it received £10 million from the venture capital arm of Lloyds Bank, LDC, in June this year.

The five branches of Ilkley-headquartered Dale Eddison will now join Linley & Sampson’s 11 offices to create an extensive network across Yorkshire, although the two brands will be operated separately. This follows Linley & Simpson’s purchase of three lettings portfolios from Hitchen & Co, McCartney Lettings and Angus Roberts.

Dale Eddison’s team of 43 staff – including directors Bill Dale, William Eddison and Gary Shankland – are to remain with the business.

There will be one change following the acquisition; in Ilkley, where both companies have branches, the Dale Eddison branch will focus on sales while Linley & Sampson’s will now specialise in lettings.

Estate agency consolidation

“Our sector is heading along a consolidation curve, where the scale of the challenges ahead will ensure that only the fittest will survive and thrive,” says Will Linley, Chief Executive of Leeds-based Linley & Sampson.

“Our ability to reinvest puts us on the strongest footing to be a market leader and keep pace with a changing property world.

“This is a transformational deal that is a great fit for us strategically and geographically [and] gives us the platform to add an extra dimension to the service we already offer our customers in Ilkley, as well as taking us onto the high streets of neighbouring areas for the first time.”

Linley & Sampson was launched 21 years ago by Will and partner Nick Simpson with just two branches but now employs some 220 people across West and North Yorkshire within 11 branches.
