Number of instructions surge led by South East sales ‘boom’
There has been a big increase in new property sales instructions according to TwentyCi despite reports the housing market is slowing down.
New instructions are more 125,000 higher than at the same time last year, new data reveals.
There are have been just over 529,000 instructions in the UK over the past three months, up from 403,600 during the same period last year, the latest TwentyCi Homemover Pulse blog shows.
The South East continues to dominate with 84,232 new properties coming onto the market. Inner London was the second busiest, with 60,763 new instructions, closely followed by the East of England and the North West with 57,572 and 57,349 respectively.
Regions with the least amount of properties coming onto the market were Northern Ireland, with 8,856 and the North East with 18,502.
Similar trends were reflected in the figures for sales agreed and completions. With the South East again showing the greatest volume followed by East England and the North West.
Northern Ireland and the North East show the least number of sales agreed and completions.
New jobs

Nick McConnell, commercial director at TwentyCi, links the figures to the areas with the best record on creating new jobs.
He says: “The demand for residential property in London and the South East continues.
“According to a report by IPPR North, almost half of England’s increase in jobs over the past decade has been in these areas. The report highlighted that London benefited from a net increase of more than 1.2m jobs between 2009 and 2019 representing 32 per cent of England’s total net increase of 3.8m even though it has 16 per cent of England’s population.
“In contrast, the North East netted 1 per cent of the rise in net jobs despite having 5 per cent of England’s population.”
