A leading Home Counties estate agent with family ties to pop royalty has died aged 62 years old.

Tim Peers had been running a business that bore his name in the town of Henley-on-Thames for the past four years, the firm having originally been called Drakeford-Lewis and Hilton when he joined, and prior to 2020 for some 25 years, Peers and Hilton.

After leaving school, Peers had worked in London as a reinsurance broker before running a franchised estate agency in Putney but later returning to his home town continue being an estate agent.

During an interview with The Henley Standard a few years ago, he said the industry was burdened with too much red tape, that he endorsed agents who dressed ‘casual but on the smart side’ and said he planned to carry on working for as long as he could.

He also revealed that his main business ethos was to ‘survive’ and look after my colleagues’.

His kindness has borne fruit – staff at his agency have opened a book of condolences at the firm’s Duke Street branch and released a statement saying that the estate agent left behind a “legacy of warmth, generosity and unwavering dedication – a man who embraced life with enthusiasm,” it says.

“We are profoundly grateful to have known and worked with him and sorely miss his presence – Tim’s contributions to our lives will be cherished forever.”

The reason for his death has not been revealed but staff said he had passed away peacefully at home in Hambleden surrounded by family.

Rock and pop

Peters had a famous family – his father was Chris Peers, who was instrumental in the foundation of  Island Records with Chris Blackwell, which as a record label was famous for discovering Bob Marley & The Wailers and U2 among others.

His stepfather Mike Hurst was a rock producer who started out playing in bands with Dusty Springfield and later Jimmy Page but also helped discover or develop a huge range of famous artists from Marc Bolan and Cat Stevens to, more recently, Belle & Sebastian.
