Stunning but running behind schedule, Battersea Power Station presses on
Extraordinary latest phase of development is launched topped by one of Europe's largest roof terraces.

Plans for the latest phase of the world’s most anticipated housing development has been revealed in London.
Buyers at Battersea Power Station will soon be able to purchase homes with panoramic views underneath one of Europe’s largest roof terraces, part of the latest phase of the Grade II* industrial icon.
The stunning roof terrace (pictured, above), designed by LDA Design in conjunction with James Corner Field Operations, tops Foster + Partners’ undulating new building.
The gardens lend their name to the entire phase of this development – Battersea Roof Gardens.
It’s like a dream, far away from the smoking chimneys of the capital; the terrace has picnic spots, sun decks and fitness areas and residents will be able to grow herbs, gather to watch a movies, cook barbeque or exercise whilst enjoying views of the capital.
Electrical connection
The terrace is part of Electric Boulevard, a building which includes 1,300 homes to the south of Battersea Power Station set to complete in 2021.
LDA Design Director and Battersea project lead, Benjamin Walker (left), said, “The public and private spaces of this incredible site are designed to cater for the communities of the future.’
Despite the glossy brochures, Battersea Power Station’s redevelopment has faced serious problems. It was recently claimed in The Financial Times that the overall project was so far behind that some off-plan buyers were able to claim back their deposits, while the site has also been plagued by cost overruns.
But when the builders do leave, it will be home to 25,000 people although so far only 1,000 live at the first finished phase, Circus West Village.
People will also work at the site; Apple is to have its UK campus, alongside over 100 shops.
