TV legend’s son blames Chancellor after family mansion sale failure

Sir Terry Wogan's son Mark says Chancellor Rachel Reeves has "killed the property market stone dead" as family home struggles to find buyer.

The son of TV legend Sir Terry Wogan has blamed the Chancellor – and not estate agents – for a lack of offers on this father’s former home.

Mark Wogan says that while the family has had to put the £3.75 million property (pictured) on the market, it has not received a single enquiry from potential buyers.

No-one has been to view the impressive house in Taplow, Buckinghamshire, with its beautiful grounds and tennis court.

Stone dead

Now Wogan Junior, who owns pizza restaurants in London and hosts a podcast, has accused the Chancellor Rachel Reeves of “killing the property market stone dead”, adding “nothing is moving”.

Rumours about the Autumn Budget containing increases in property tax, including Capital Gains Tax on main residences worth more than £1.5 million, are being blamed for hesitancy amongst some buyers.

Fine & Country reported some buyers trying to renegotiate prices and pushing for quick transactions before any new taxes are introduced.

Wealth

Wogan made his comments on TalkTV while speaking to host Mike Graham, who referred to the Chancellor as ‘Rachel Thieves’.

He said his father worked hard all his career and built up a good amount of wealth that cannot now be passed onto his three children and grandchildren.

Wogan’s mother, Lady Helen, died last year at the age of 88, and now the family want to sell the former family home.

His father, who died in 2016, was a household name for his work as a Radio 2 presenter, and on TV where he had his own prime time chat show. He also hosted Children In Need as well as coverage of the Eurovision Song Contest and of course quiz show Blankety Blank.
