Utilities switching proptech buys Homebox platform
Billing Better and Homebox brands will both survive as the firms come together after years of close working.
Utility bills management provider Billing Better has acquired Homebox, the comparison and switching service, in its first takeover move.
Both brand names will survive the deal, which follows several years of close working between the two firms.
The Homebox team will join Billing Better, including founder Hedley Smith (on right, main picture) who will take up a new position as chief technology officer for the group.
There are plans to relaunch the Homebox brand as a new offering in the space. The current white-labelled utilities comparison service offered by Homebox will also be relaunched as part of an integrated bills management platform.
Exciting roadmap
Jack Ray, Billing Better’s founder, (on left, main picture) says: “We’re delighted to complete our first acquisition in order to build out our offering for home movers.
“Homebox’s free comparison tool sits perfectly alongside our bills bundle product, giving home movers the perfect blend of choice when they set up their home.
“Hedley’s unique blend of experience within PropTech and utilities sits perfectly for our business, and we are delighted to have the Homebox team join us on our journey,” he says.
There are some huge opportunities in the space, and tackling them together makes complete sense.”
Smith says: “After working together for some time it became clear that there are some huge opportunities in the space, and tackling them together makes complete sense.
“We’ve got a really exciting roadmap ahead of us focusing on simplifying and de-stressing people’s lives – at a time when it’s more important than ever.
“Billing Better has a fantastic team and ethos and I’m looking forward to being a part of the next chapter.”
