West Country win for Clive Emson
Clive Emson’s July auction experienced 100 per cent sale success in the West Country, with the majority of lots listed sparking bidding wars. Bidding in particular hotted up in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset, resulting in a clean sweep of 13 lots in the three counties.

In South Devon, a clifftop house with stunning coastal views at Bigbury-on-Sea sold for £561,000 at auction, £200,000 above its freehold guide price. Further along the coast in Fowey, a substantial townhouse in need of rejuvenation went for £328,000, which was nearly £100,000 above estimate.

In Cornwall, a charming three-bedroom property in an idyllic location near Redruth, sold for £303,000 against the £275,000 guide and an end-terrace house in Glastonbury went for £203,000 off the guide price of £170,000 to £185,000.
Overall, the auction firm recorded £18m-plus in sales, with a success rate of 80%.
James Emson, Clive Emson’s Managing Director, said, “There was especially strong interest in the West Country lots, perhaps driven by new remote or hybrid working practices from people no longer tied to commuter-belt cities, and the majority of the lots resulted in prices far higher than guide.”
Clive Emson’s next auction is on 22nd September.
