ZPG results: buying spree dents profits but revenues increase
ZPG has published its full-year results, revealing a substantial increase in turnover but smaller than expected profits. The group, which operates portals Zoopla and PrimeLocation, saw its turnover increase by 24% but profits only rise by 2%, reflecting the costs of its many acquisitions over the past year including – it was announced today – a Dutch AVM provider called Calcasa. It joins other acquisitions including personal finance website money.co.uk, agent software firm Expert Agent, agency website provider TecniWeb, agent print media and signage specialist Ravensworth and data firm Hometrack. This buying spree helped push up ZPG’s debt by £45 million to £191 million, or nearly 80% of its turnover for the year of £244.5 million, while its borrowings have increased in value by £110m to £266m. ZPG says it now has 14,772 branches signed up to its portals, a 6% rise compared to the same time last year, which helped push up revenue within its property arm by 41%. Revenue per branch This, the company says, is in part down to the 1,000 agents it claims have left OnTheMarket and returned to Zoopla over the past 12 months. ZPG also now says it has 969,000 listing on its sites,…

Would you pay £32 to look around the ZPG head office?
Would you pay £32 to be shows around the ZPG head office? That is the price being charged to participants in this year’s Workplace Week event this November, during which some of the UK’s more innovative and creative workplaces will be opening their doors. If you think this a bit much to see around the ZPG office, then be reassured that the entrance fee is to raise funds for the BBC’s Children in Need. It is the fourth year the event has run, during which – so far – a total of £100,000 has been raised. ZPG is one of 19 companies opening up their funky HQs to public inspection. Others include Tesco in Welwyn Garden City, the Mclaren supercar factory near Woking in Surrey, WWF’s ‘tree house’ also near Woking and Lloyds of London. ZPG’s 45,000 sq ft office, which the company moved into eight months ago, houses both Zoopla but also its other brands including uSwtich, PSG and PrimeLocation. Recently added companies Hometrack and ExpertAgent are still based in the original offices in Chelsea and Somerset respectively. The ZPG office, created by leading workplace design and fit-out company Maris, is in a courtyard building close to Tower Bridge…

ZPG add RICS to agents’ professional affiliations
Agents that list their properties on Zoopla and its sister portals, including PrimeLocation, can now showcase their professional associations and redress schemes that they are signed up to across the Zoopla Property Group (ZPG) platform of websites, including the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS), which has been addedto ZPGs recently launched feature in the past few days. Zoopla members wishing to activate this new feature can do so under their profile in ZooplaPro and activate the display of logos of their affiliations on all relevant agent directory pages, property details pages and professional reports across the ZPG platform. In an attempt to distance themselves from rogue agents and promote professionalism and better standards of service, many agents sign up to various industry bodies that offer professional guidance and self-regulation, in order to offer consumers greater confidence and protection, as well as sharpen up their own industry knowledge and specialist skills. Rob Clifford, Chief Executive of Century 21 UK, said: “Our membership [to RICS and ARLA] delivers greater confidence to clients that we are working to industry best-practice guidelines in what is still a non-regulated industry. Clients can also take a great deal of comfort from the fact they are…
