Zoopla is to hire 120 extra staff next year, taking its head count to over 750 people across the UK, the portal has announced and making it a larger employer than Rightmove which has 495 employees.
The extra people are being hired to execute Zoopla’s growth plans set by its US owner, investment firm Silver Lake Partners, and will have a tech focus including a need for software engineers, user experience professionals and data analysis specialists.
But the company is also bolstering its marketing, customer success and other business support functions, and says it want to ‘reinvigorate’ the home buying process and offer a better experience for its agent customers.
The new roles will be based primarily in London at its HQ (pictured, above) although extra roles will be created within its regional teams too.
But the additional jobs being created in the capital are significant enough to garner political support from London’s Deputy Mayor for Business Rajesh Agrawal (left).
“The fact that Zoopla is expanding and creating these new roles is great news, and is further evidence that London is open for business,” he says.
The extra staff will add considerable costs to Zoopla’s bottom line; many of the roles will be technology jobs and the UK currently faces a shortage of software engineers. Employers are having to offer higher and higher salaries to lure talent.
Zoopla employees already receive a competitive salary alongside other benefits including posh offices, free breakfast and snacks, an in-office gym and a minimum of 25 days leave per year.
