Big self-employed estate agency bids to challenge EXP
TAUK makes second acquisition in a month as part of its plans to be the largest self-employed platform in UK

The Agency UK (TAUK) has acquired Cardiff-based Isla Alexander for a ‘substantial, undisclosed sum’ as part of its strategic plan to challenge EXP’s dominance of the self-employed estate agency sector.
The takeover of the Welsh self-employed agency is the second in just a few weeks, following its earlier acquisition of rival The Estate Agency, bringing the number of its partner agents to 200.
It has made no secret of its ambition to overtake EXP. TAUK CEO Andy Vass (pictured) says, “This latest acquisition propels TAUK to one of the top two self-employed platforms in the UK. It will soon be followed by others as part of our ‘buy to build’ strategy.
Our intention is unequivocally to become the number one self-employed platform.”
“Our intention is unequivocally to become the number one self-employed platform and to do so by not only purchasing competitor businesses but to provide an unrivalled agent offering, the best financial proposition, fantastic support and the backing of a brand that is now the fastest growing in the sector.”
As part of the deal, Isla Alexander‘s Sales Director, Sarah Walters will remain with the combined business to help drive performance, particularly in the South West, where TAUK already has a strong presence.
The ambitious growth plans reflect TAUK’s approach since its launch in December 2020 by Vass, Mark Bruce and Stephanie Walker, all of whom were involved in the early stages of Purplebricks.
It’s strategic

Steph Walker, Co-Founder at TAUK, comments: “Just like we saw consolidation in the portal space in the early 2000s, we’re now seeing the same in personal agency — and TAUK is leading that charge. This isn’t random growth. It’s strategic, considered, and built on shared values.”
Kenny Bruce, board director and investor at TAUK adds: “This journey is becoming interesting and I and the team here have undoubtedly backed the right horse in striving to dominate the fast-growing self-employed estate agency sector.

“I know it’s a cliché, but do watch this space. We are serious about our number one ambitions and we’re demonstrating that with this further acquisition, two within a month of each other.”
Ross McKenzie, Founder of Isla Alexander, says: “Our team is very excited and proud to be joining TAUK. From day one, it’s been clear that our values align — backing great people, raising standards, and creating something that genuinely puts agents first.”
