Compliance platforms to help MPs avoid landlording gaffes
Yuno says it is to help any of the 85 MPs, Peers and ministers who are landlords to stay compliant following a string of scandals that has cost several their reputations and jobs.

A property industry compliance platform has offered MPs in England a tongue-in-cheek guide to avoiding the kind of mistakes that have so far claimed a housing minister and a leading Labour MP.
Yuno is offering to hand-hold politicians in England through the minefield of lettings and sales rules, something many MPs and ministers clearly need given their gaffes to date.
This includes now former homeless minister Rushanara Ali who fell on her sword after it was claimed she had ejected tenants and subsequently increased the rent, and Ilford MP Jas Athwal who had to resign as a local councillor after properties he rented out had not been licensed.
And there is Angela Rayner’s Stamp Duty mistakes that cost her three jobs, and the selective licensing errors that nearly cost the Chancellor hers.
“At Yuno, we believe that compliance isn’t just for landlords — it’s for lawmakers too,” says Yuno CEO Paul Conway.
“If you’re an MP or Peer and a landlord – there are 85 landlords serving in the House of Commons – whether you have one property or dozens, the difference between a smooth morning and a front-page scandal might be one missed licence or one mis-interpreted tax rule.
“Don’t let someone else write your legacy – ensure your property affairs are as tight as your expenses.
“Any honourable Members and Peers with property portfolios wanting free access to Yuno compliance monitoring, please contact us on [email protected] from a parliamentary email address, or write to us on write us on Parliamentary notepaper.
Yuno says MPs, like any landlord, should not assume they are exempt from licensing rules, be careful what’s a ‘primary residence’ (as Angela Rayner omitted to clarify) and ensure all safety certificates are up to date.
