My Property Box trio complete Mighty Hike for cancer charity

Three members of staff from estate agency group My Property Box have raised £1,766 for Macmillan Cancer Support after completing the charity’s challenging 26-mile Mighty Hike around Ullswater in the Lake District.

My Property Box, which has offices in Darlington, Newcastle and Northallerton, was represented by Darlington colleagues Marie Wilmot, Sales & Lettings Director, Polly Scaife, Assistant Manager, and Accounts Assistant Murray Brock, who was accompanied by his partner Emily.

Starting and finishing at Dalemain Mansion, the route circled Ullswater, England’s second-largest lake, taking in picturesque lakeside trails as well as the climb over the 1,578ft Gowbarrow Fell.

Marie and Polly (main image) completed the route together, crossing the finish line in just under nine-and-a-half hours, while Murray and Emily finished in eight hours and 37 minutes.

In loving memory

Polly walked in memory of her mum Amanda, who was diagnosed with breast cancer and who died in 2013.

She said: “The last eight miles were definitely the hardest. By then my legs were feeling numb, but we kept each other going and just focused on reaching the finish – and it was an amazing feeling when we did!”

Murray walked with Emily, who dedicated it to two of her grandparents, both of whom were diagnosed with cancer.

He said: “The hardest part of the day was definitely having to get up at 5am. Despite everything, it was a brilliant experience and one I’d recommend to anyone – even if they choose the shorter 12.5-mile Mighty Hike.”

Marie took part in memory of her brother-in-law, Jim, who died from an aggressive blood cancer just a month before her wedding last year, and had been due to be the best man.

She added: “It was an amazing day. There were some really tough sections with difficult terrain, rain and the final six miles were especially hard on the legs, but crossing the finish line made it all worthwhile.”

Macmillan’s Mighty Hikes take place across some of Britain’s most spectacular landscapes, with every pound raised helping the charity provide practical, emotional and financial support to people living with cancer.
