Greenaway’s Christmas Dinner goes down well
Every year the Greenaway Foundation tries to make a difference in the community, by providing financially challenged families with all the ingredients to cook a healthy two course Christmas Dinner – with presents for the children. News at Ten newsreader, Nicolas Owen turned up to lend a hand.
In 2011 Darren Greenaway started providing challenged families with all the ingredients to cook a two course healthy Christmas dinner. Business is quiet in December so it is a perfect way to help the community – now the company is in the final stages of setting up its own charity.
With increasing numbers, they relocated to Oriel High School in Maidenbower, Crawley, which offered facilities for two days. With 100 volunteers, 344 families had deliveries on Christmas Eve.
This year also marked third year of the wishing tree, where children pop into the agency and make a wish for a present – 700 presents were delivered to the children.
The team, joined by newsreader Nicolas Owen and his family, worked tirelessly and by lunchtime all deliveries were made, the school was tidy and the team were reviewing the efforts to see where improvements could be made for Christmas 2020.
