Lettings platform Goodlord says it is ‘disheartened’ that a group of employees within its tenant referencing team have decided to go on strike.
This follows claims by the Unite union, which represents some 20 employees at the company, that Goodlord has been operating a ‘fire and rehire’ policy within its London-based, 100-strong tenant referencing team.
Unite also claims that the employees involved, who are among a large group being transitioned from temporary to permanent contracts, have been offered annual salaries £6,000 lower than before, from £24,000 to £18,000.
The industrial action, which is due to take place between 22nd and 26th February, will see 14 members of staff go on strike over the new contracts.
Goodlord says this is six fewer than stated by Unite, which has claimed the strike will impact the lettings platform’s referencing service.
Although Goodlord acknowledges the pay cut, it says the new contracts reflect a move to home working within the referencing team during Covid, as well as staff being given permanent employment status and benefits.
A statement from Goodlord says: “In 2020 we took steps to transition a large part of our referencing team from temporary to permanent contracts.
“After many weeks of dialogue, we’re disheartened that a small number of these colleagues remain dissatisfied with the terms of their new permanent contracts offered.
“We’re committed to continuing our ongoing dialogue and hope to swiftly reach a conclusion that suits all parties. In the meantime, we’ve taken all necessary measures to ensure our services continue as normal.”
Unite spokesperson Steve O’Donnell says: “Our members have been left with no choice but go on strike to fight against these cuts, which would see their pay plummet to well below the real London living wage.”
